the front overhang is horrible, to me, like the new accord. but hey, most buyers won't care, at all, and they're lured in with the rugged look thinking it's somehow 'safer' and will get them out of the zombie apocalypse.
I wouldn't say this vehicle is beautiful, but I don't see how its ugly. Its a "pretty good looking SUV" IMO. Inoffensive.

Front overhangs are horrible I agree, thats just the nature of FWD design unfortunately.

Lots of cars I totally understand why people think they are ugly, I don’t get it for this one. Rav 4 I get.

First giveaway that they look nothing alike is the roof racks. the windshield is not as raked in the Ford. Or the headlights. Or the door handles. Or the C pillar which is the biggest giveaway

Yeah it really does, actually...
I actually don't see it as being that "fake rugged" looking either...

I can't speak to Mercedes, but despite being technically FWD-based because the engine is attached to a transaxle, Audi's design has way more in common with RWD-based AWD vehicles than it does with FWD-based ones. This is why their front overhangs are far less obnoxious than a traditional FWD would be, as a portion of the rear of the engine can sit directly over the drive wheels.
The engine is mounted Longitudinally, like in all front-engine RWD vehicles, rather than Transverse like most FWD vehicles. The transmission sits in a similar place as it would in a RWD vehicle, and has an output shaft at the rear, just like in a RWD vehicle. The main difference is there's an integral prop shaft that comes back forward and drives the front axles. Here's the transaxle from a Q5:
If this were RWD-based, the rear output shaft would drive a transfer case, which would then have a prop shaft or some other method of bringing that power back to the front axles, which also are not part of the main transmission housing.
By contrast, with a transverse-mounted engine, unless you want a REALLY high hoodline, the entire engine has to be at a minimum several inches in front of the front axles. That drives the super-long front overhangs like you see in this Pilot. here's a Pilot transaxle:
The flywheel (ahem: flex plate) is where it mounts to the engine, while the big red caps quite a ways back cover the splines where the axle shafts attach.

I also don't think the overhang on this is that bad, it doesnt jump out at me like it does on a lot of Toyota models:
