Well, I'm not necessarily disagreeing. But, as you note below, Teutonic vehicles, back then, in general, were not known for equipment-content. The German vehicles were also some of the last ones to adopt cupholders. Today, of course, the Teutonic vehicles lead in technology.

Its funny, the Germans were light on features like that back then

And some of the cupholders they had were hilariously unusable!

Not just bad, but poorly placed. So many Mercedes owners spilt their drinks into the shifter area and required repairs. My sister did it to my mom's car when we were young and got us stranded at some rural gas station in Alabama. Not where I wanted to be with my skin color lol

I'm guessing that your mom wasn't too thrilled?

Beyond livid lol. We can laugh about it now and it gets brought up at holiday dinners with regularity.

What happened, did you put the cup behind or in front and crush it when you put it into park??

I think the Germans wore that as a badge of honor personally ("We just drive these cars fast....we aren't fat American slobs with mcDonalds cups") but then they just had to give in because we were reallllllly bytching.

If that's my stereotype, fine. I need my cupholders. And cooler in the center console.
