not to harp on about decade old incidents but jay leno is at the center of some of the biggest drama possibly EVER in the entertainment industry... i feel like people who mostly only know him from the cars side of things either don't know or forget what a shrewd fox he was regarding the tonight show
of course i'm still a fan of his and obviously happy to see him doing well lol

I like people/celebrities who are controversial.

Still doesn’t change the fact he is a down to earth guy in person and comes across very genuine. Also one of the most well respected auto enthusiasts in the world.

You don’t become #1 in any industry without being cutthroat and competitive. I think he helped screw Letterman from Tonight show and the other guy that took over briefly.

If Jay is a total jerk behind closed doors then he is one hell of an actor.

But he also is clearly humble and kind in many areas. His professional career is not one of those areas lol

Now Jay has a perspective too. Imagine you’re #1, the undisputed leader and they come to you and say “we don’t want to lose this guy Conan, so we want to plan for you to hand what you’ve worked your whole life for over to him in 5 years” when you still want to work and do so at a really high level…

i'll always be grateful that there's someone with a car collection like that, who's actually willing to use and allow access to them for those who really care

meanwhile it's difficult to find someone in 'the biz' who hasn't spoken out against jay leno at some point

conan paid for his entire staff's salary out of pocket during the interim between moving from NBC to TBS, and almost everyone that worked with him in NY moved out to LA to stay with the show... that alone speaks volumes toward conan's integrity

That isn't true. It was never given a chance to succeed, and he was saddled with a new Leno show beforehand which was never in the cards. Whenever you have a new show its going to take time for it to catch on. The reason all of this happened was Leno didnt retire when he said he was going to, and they were afraid to lose him to another network, so they wanted to make his lead in show (which also was tanking) an hour and push the Tonight Show with Conan back to a later slot, and Conan refused. They didn't fire Conan.
if you look at the current leaders in late night, they are a lot more like Conan than they are Leno. Had Leno retired like he agreed to do Conan would have done great. In fact the most Leno-like host, Jimmy Fallon is now in last place.
