Reading that this new plug in hybrid will have a 1000 mile range. That is crazy

As impressive as this is, I'm sure it will no longer be sold as basic hybrid transportation. By the time the dealer adds mark-up and deals with limited supply, these will all likely be $40k+ cars.

everything is $40k today.

And to be fair, when Corolla was starting at $16k, Prius was more like $22k.

So it will be more expensive than Corolla, but it is also better than Corolla.

In fact, it looks like a really nice vehicle. It just needs to be .... EV!

He means full BEV. Plugin's don't have enough range and usually switch to the gasoline motor after 30 mph, unless this has a bigger battery. Looks pretty cool, unlike the previous Priuses

Not sure about other plug-ins, but the current RAV4 plug-in and outgoing Prius Prime can go up to 84 mph on electric only. I assume this will be similar.

I see. They mention 50 percent more range, do you know what that is?

The outgoing model was 25 miles, so 50 percent more would put it at about 37 miles. RAV4 Prime is 42 miles.

Interesting. These are probably going to be Toyota's last generation of Hybrids. Unfortunately, I'm used to 0 to 80 in 5.5 seconds, 100 MPGe, and never having to go to a gas station ever again. Can't go back. But I have to say, the redesign is really nice, Toyota did a good job on the look and design. I would actually consider this if it was a full BEV and had at least 300 hp. And it can't be FWD. I drove the FWD Prime (I think 2023 is only AWD now), and the torque steer was really bad, especially in left turns

Huge improvement in looks, but the question still remains- what is the point of the Prius if the entire Toyota lineup is already getting hybridized?

Had this been Toyota's full BEV Model 3 competitor, it would be very compelling. As it is, it's just the same thing in a different skin.

Well it's a known nameplate that a lot of people drive, that's also likely why they made it look far more normal inside and out so that it fits in better with the mainstream trends unlike the earlier ones.

But in "normalizing" it, they've made it just another Toyota sedan. Beyond the hybrid aspect, people used to gravitate towards the Prius for its looks, questionable as they may have been. It's no longer a statement piece.

I don't see what there is here to sway someone away from a Corolla or Camry hybrid, which aren't bad-looking cars either.
