2023 Toyota Prius

That's not all you said.
You also said "Hybrids are the worst of both worlds." Hundreds of thousands of buyers who want better-than-ICE fuel economy together with better-than-EV refueling availability, affordability and serviceability don't agree with you.
And they're voting with their dollars to prove it.

Let me put it another way, if you care about mpg in the context of cost instead of range you are price constrained. I only care about mpg so that I have at least 500 miles range

i guess you hang on to it for sentimental reasons? since you already have the rav4prime, not sure why you don't get rid of the prius and save the insurance, registration, etc.

I’ve thought about getting rid of it but I always find a reason to drive it. I drive it to work now. Use the RAV4 prime when I’m not at work.

I think Ioniq 5 has a magnificently styled exterior.
As usual for Hyundai - a massive wheelbase for a roomy interior.
Nice solid battery pack.
Great massive wheelbase ride.
The only thing holding me back is the interior styling.
I have LG and Samsung fridges, LG microwave, LG oLED 77", Samsung 64" plasma and 60" LED-LCD, plus Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S9 Plus - hence I have absolutely nothing against Korean products.
TBH, after we bought the LG microwave, we went straight back to our trusted Panasonic microwave with the not so durable flexible soft plastic buttons; the LG's hard plastic touch sensitive buttons are stylish and durable, however the white characters are very poorly legible!
Ditto my Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Plus 12.4" 16:9 widescreen tablet - I would go back to our family's trusted Apple iPad Pro 11" 4:3, because although the Samsung has a great richly colorful oLED screen, the "widescreen 16:9" proportions of the Samsung tablet are too wide for many hands, and even if we purchase the smaller Samsung 11" version, this is still a widescreen 16:9 which is a huge stretch for average thumbs to reach the center of the screen to type - plus the 12.4" Samsung widescreen oLED is very heavy too.
Thus, we find the trusted iPad Pro's 11" 4:3 screen ratio both much more ergonomic with taller and more legible fonts, and easier for the thumb to stretch to the center on landscape mode. With a 4:3 aspect ratio, we can live with the horizontal black bars during widescreen movies, and we don't watch too many of those on tablets either. Apple is rumored to be addressing the oLED screen issue with oLED availability at the next generation model to be released next month in May.
I once incorrectly thought that my LG's "gesture" remote control was bad, until I found out that the gesture feature was difficult to use because the young kids threw it on the floor and partially damaged the transmitter, so after we replaced it [for free too], the LG's gesture remote control is now absolutely superb!
Hence, I have nothing against Hyundai, nor Motorola for that matter.

Sentimental reasons for one thing. That car safely and reliably took us on many long trips (to Canada, all around the Northeast and Midwest many many times, back and forth multiple times between NJ and FL, across the USA all the way to Utah and back, etc, etc). It was my daily driver to work for a decade, and was used to haul our stuff from NJ to here (it can hold a quite large amount with folded rear seats) several times. We've camped in it a few times, and my son used it to learn how to drive. All on around 50+ mpg.
It's like this old faithful pet that has given you great and loyal service over many years, and you want to see it til the end.

But yeah, the continuing total hybridization of cars today means its pioneering function has passed.
In meantime, nice to see it pull in lots of top auto awards this year as some kinda grand finale.

i don't like the touch climate controls under the screen, but don't have to mess with them much.
other than that though, the ioniq 5 is about a perfect 'appliance' (to use your refrigerator comparisons ).
about ipad, i agree that the 4:3 aspect ratio makes it easier to hold and use (on my '21 12.9 pro now, although with the magic keyboard so i don't have to hold it at all). hoping the new release next month is lighter for both ipad and magic keyboard, then i might upgrade.
anyway, off topic...
the prius was a solid bold attempt by toyota to inject new enthusiasm for what 'started it all' with hybrids. very sleek now, but hugely compromised in space because of that, and as usual i don't like the huge front end from wheels forward, and i really don't like the interior dash layout.
but for someone who wants stylish car with great gas mileage, it may fit the bill.

I had the choice of copper crest for the 450h+, but in the end decided it might look cool now, and would be easy to find, but what if i got tired of it later? polarizing colors tend to be a love/hate thing, but the white/black/grays are the "safer" option. Not sure whether resale is affected as well by color.
