During the winter dealerships with collision centers, body shops etc. probably have so many cars coming in at all hours it's not uncommon to see them parked they can put them.

Just a couple of days ago, for instance, there was a 46-vehicle pileup on the Ohio Turnpike, in that snowstorm.

Fun times. Many many many people crashed around here, had three cars stuck in my neighborhood alone.

Meanwhile we were driving RWD sedans with no issues.....

I was looking for a 4x4 option when I was getting my X5 because occasionally I do need it. The lady said, "you will be fine. Your RWD is like the shopping cart. When you push the cart, you "drive" with rear tires. You'll be fine." I thought she was just giving me some BS. But now I see you've driven fine with your RWD in the snow?
Back to the topic... I've seen more new S in the recent past than Steve's so kind of getting used to it. I didn't like it at first. I saw a black clean one today and all the old feeling came back. This older one is very classic as an S should be IMO. Too bad it's outdated and the problems will soon arise. If long term reliability is not an issue, I think I would get an S to keep.

Yeah I would still take AWD for the snow lol.

Honestly, there aren't a lot of long term reliability issues...the forums are surprisingly devoid of problems with the W222.

I mean it's fine but an AWD car is better, the Jag was more forgiving in this blizzard we had but I've sold that car now so my only AWD cars are the Audis. Those don't see snow/rain though but I imagine they would be amazing

They would be. Our Q7 has the rear-biased Torsen-based Quattro like your A8s, and on Blizzaks it's an absolute monster in the snow. Even with the nannies dialed back or totally disabled, you REALLY have to work at getting it to misbehave.

Speaking of S-class service....even a Toyota master considers the S a dream car over the LS and admits while service is expensive it's worth it and really not any more difficult than on many Toyotas. I have said many times that the modern German stuff is really not that bad and well designed in terms of working on them.

The last 5 min are very funny to me, it was also a reminder that there was not even a way for me to get a warranty on my 12 since companies stopped offering them due to certain people exploiting CarMax with 12 cyl Mercedes cars.

Yet he just traded in his S550 and 2017 GLE for a 2023 GX. I wonder why? It's interesting how some people here who buy German products have to justify their purchase by trying to put down Lexus or specifically the LS. I have a 2022 LS with the Luxury package. Its a great car. I could have bought a 2022 750i. Everything was approved but I went back to lexus. It's a quality product. The G90 isn't on its level yet. Most aren't willing to spend over 90 grand on a genesis. The S Class is a great car as well. Anyone able to get these cars are blessed. If you want to buy German go for it. I don't hear anyone bashing the A8 in order to justify the S Class. Just my humble opinion.

The LS simply isn't on the same level anymore, it does do some things better but once you feel a 550hp active suspension German car at 180mph it's just never the same.

The A8 has issues vs the S-class when it comes to isolation and overall sound levels, you also can't get quite as much stuff in one. The major/deciding edge for me at least is the utterly superior drivelines and transmissions, on top of being much lighter and easier to work on.....that's why I didn't go Mercedes since I just don't like how the AMGs drive and the trans behavior.

I guess it's also not exactly fair since the LS is just not as expensive, the driveline doesn't change at $80k vs maxed out vs the Germans getting a way better setup at the 120k and 140k marks. Can't really fairly compete with a car that is only half the price in many cases after all...

I still love Lexus however and my LSs aren't going anywhere, they are simply a different experience and are better for it in many ways. However I like having a lot of power and control they simply do not have.

It's more simple than that. His warranty ran out so he did what he said he would and got rid of it, very few are able to really work on these and actually own them permanently.

Yes he got rid of both of his Mercs. But he didn’t lose money on the SUV!

Yeah he actually said they enjoyed their ML ownership and it was reliable. They just loved the GX.
