Two years in, life with a Mercedes is a lot like life with a Lexus...just a little +$

German cars were ahead of the LS460 too…far ahead. LS460 had no turbos where the Germans did. Lots of super advance tech has always been the Germans forte. Even the LS460 had no pano roof..Germans did. BMW, Audi and MB all had 12 cylinder motors…almost impossible to argue LS was ever on the German playing field for that discrepancy alone. During the LS430 reign…S class distronic-ed itself with 4matic Lexus took 10 more years to go Torsen awd. Heck the Germans were doing short and long wheelbase version in the LS400 era. Geez, Mercedes had diesels S classes and still do. And S class came in Plug in hybrid too.
Yup, it happens to all of them...

The LS460L was 205 inches long, same size as an S Class. LS460 was 200 inches long, same size as a SWB S Class. Cars are the same size regardless of the classification. The LS430 and LS400 were indeed smaller, but their packaging made them feel similar in size inside. LS400 and LS430 were always more similar to a SWB flagship, which is why they came out with the LWB on the 460. LS400 and 430 were 196 inches or so long, W140 S Class LWB was about 205 inches long, SWB was about 199 inches long
2017 LS460L: 205.0
2020 S560: 206.9
Same size. In fact my LS460L had more rear legroom than my S560 for sure.

This thread is about two years in the life of a Benz.
Steve only leases, so this thread will never evolve into five.
However, if it did reach five, the interesting thing I found about Benz is after the warranty period expires, the Benz really starts to fall apart!
My Indian friend says it’s deliberately engineered to fall apart as the Germans want the vehicle to go to the scrap heap by the 10 year mark. However, that is a different topic.

People have been saying that BS since the beginning of time about almost all brands except Toyota. Everyone always has a friend that seems to know that [insert brand here] engineers cars for the junkyard. German cars would be having far more severe reputation crises than they do now if that was the case. There's plenty of 10+ year old German cars around, even the ones on the 3-4th owner that have been poorly maintained.

And why would your friend being Indian have anything to do with him having knowledge about how cars are engineered?

Exactly, and its hogwash. Toyota is not the only company that makes a car one can enjoy owning without it being a reliability nightmare.

When I drive by in my RX, women throw their undergarments at me. And on reliability, somebody has to finish last.

Yet somehow the many people on MBWorld with W222s that are 7, 8 years old that haven't had any serious problems would disagree. Thats my point, much of that is just not true. I personally know several people with Mercedes vehicles well over 100k miles and they have been trouble free.
And why would your friend being Indian have anything to do with him having knowledge about how cars are engineered?

Some buyers have a dream run, while others experience lemons.
Part of Benz ownership.
Beautiful styling.
Functionally spacious.
Performance, handling, ride, and now very quiet these days.
A lot of respect from onlookers.
However, very inconsistent, so be prepared to lease and $$$.
Lexus much more consistent.

My “Indian Friend” …..
Some cars are already falling apart before leaving the plant.
Lease gives you the option. It’s not a bad thing.
