All the wires run thru rubber protective boot- and there's a lot of them.

It was tight to work in that spot but doable- took an hour each time.
Total of 2 broke wires.

Only other thing that failed was the soft close on the trunk and it wouldn't close fully.
Never seen anything like it- the trunk closure was both electric and vacuum operated.
It had a small crack develop in the vacuum tank part on the trunk closure gizmo- fixed the crack with JB Quick and back in business and saved $800 for the part.
Easy- took an hour

As far as the hydraulic suspension:

On two occasions I came out in the morning and a corner of the car was sagging low.
It would pump up once started.

This is where an Indy is gold- I coul've been SOAKED good by a shop cuz I knew nothing about the system so I had to completely take their work and these suspensions can run into the $1,000's to fix.
Luckily both times it was just a sensor on the affected corner fail but someone could've taken advantage of me easy.

Cost was under $300 each time- whew!
Lucked out big time!

In Mercedes at least, the 48V system is essentially just a "shim" between the engine and transmission that houses the ISG. This replaces both the starter and alternator, while also adding the ability to directly add motive power.

As a result, working on the engine is actually simpler, because there are fewer accessories running off of it--it's gone back to being just an engine. The starter and alternator are completely gone (replaced by the ISG), and other accessories are electric instead of belt-driven.

Nice review and write up.

I've sat inside an S class once at an auto show and felt totally out of place. I don't know if it was due to me being young or that the car was just too lavish.
But I really like the Mercedes brand. Upon seeing that emblem, you get a good feeling. It makes you feel special and that the product is special. But speaking on the actual Mercedes product itself, I don't think they've found their footing yet. Too many weird designs IMO.

Lexus and Mercedes both have their strength and weaknesses.

Mercedes can't find a hole up their own butts with their EV designs. But the other cars? I'd say they've done a good job with evolving their design language (at least on the outside) over the past few decades. You're not going to confuse a Merc with any other car besides another Merc.

I think Steve's generation of S-Class has arguably the best interior design Mercedes has ever put in a vehicle- the only one I would put above it is the coupe version which is more or less the same thing anyway.

I actually think his generations exterior is the best too. I saw a new black S class the other day from the rear while driving and it looked really generic and didn’t seem to have the presence of the old one. The tail lights on the older ones were very distinguishable to me.

Germans cars of that level have shock factor. Most people who have never been in something of that level get overwhelmed with how much there is to take in I've noticed.

i disagree. no disrespect to the w222 but i think the current s-class is just a more modern and stylish design. i don't like the 'ski slope' screen design inside a whole lot though. the looks of it. but i did just experience it driving a non hyperscreen eqs suv and it was fine.

Mercedes is one of the primary leaders and innovators in the industry, the inventor of the car. Doesn't make sense to say they haven't found their footing lol. They found it long, long ago.

I have grown to like the W223 a lot, its very similar to the W222 just smoother and more modern. Only design tough I don't like is the grille, I prefer the more traditional shield grille on mine, and I don't like the painted gap between the grille and the hood in the 223. Like the 222 the 223 needs the AMG package to look its best.

Interior I still strongly prefer mine but the interior is growing on me.

I don't understand people who LOVE the 222 and HATE the 223. They are way too similar to have that stark a reaction.

This NX is a far more modern and contemporary design than MB or BMW at the same price point.

I think the new NX looks great, but materialwise inside its not on the same level as a comparable Mercedes. it blows the GLA and GLB away (their interiors are awful) but the new GLC is much nicer inside:

They're actually almost the same price. The NX starts at $39,755 and the GLC starts at $43,850, so only about 10% more. The NX also has WAY less power than the GLC300, so you need to go to a NX350 to have comparable power, which starts at

The Lexus is cheaper, because thats how Lexus is but sizewize these vehicles are competitors, if someone is looking for a similar size Mercedes to an NX, its the GLC. Something like a GLB or GLA is a big step down from an NX even though they are more similar engineeringwise.

Pricewise the NX starts at $39,755 and the GLC starts at $43,850, so only about 10% more. The NX also has WAY less power than the GLC300, so you need to go to a NX350 to have comparable power, which starts at $43,518 with standard AWD, 4Matic to the GLC brings its starting price to $45,850, so the GLC is only about $2,000 more.

Well optioned with luxury package, open pore wood trim, ML audio, advanced headlights, etc etc an NX350 is $58,855, you can absolutely buy a GLC in that range that will have that interior posted above (complete new model GLC pricing isn't out yet)

I predict the old school Mercedes will start to have collectible value and be coveted just for the simple reason they aren't filled with those screens.

Less buttons and more screens, not liking the direction it's going.

It's not a Tesla so why MB is cutting costs I don't know but I see thru eyes as an electrical specialist and this looks minimalistic and cheaper IMO

Totally different class. NX lines up with the Corsair. RDX.
