It's not a Tesla so why MB is cutting costs I don't know but I see thru eyes as an electrical specialist and this looks minimalistic and cheaper IMO
Old school everything will wind up having collectable value, thats how it works.

The industry is moving towards more screens and less physical controls. Thats just how it is, the Lexus is all screen too.

Look at the pricing though, its not that different, and I promise you people do cross shop them. Of course the Mercedes will cost more, but its also better. Loaded up the NX is a little expensive IMO.

But that's not necessarily how it has to be. There is nothing set in stone that mandates putting everything on screens nowadays. In fact, I just finished a write-up on the Chevy Bolt EUV.....a pure-electric BEV that does a nice job of offering a state-of-the-art electric drivetrain (and an excellent one at that) with a more-or-less conventional dash/gauge layout.

But thats how it is. We don't have any ability to change the direction of the industry.

I think we do.

But people keep buying these newer cars with this so it is what it is unfortunately.
I get it, it dazzles people but it's just code and "under the skin" there is nothing glamorous or impressive about it.

Anyway, Tesla oh well, but I'm actually sad to see MB doing this on newer models.....

What you miss is...lots of buyers like screens. Younger generations are used to doing everything on a screen. Vehicle designers wouldn't design something their customers didn't want. I have no problem with screens outside of a few core controls I want to be physical controls.

They have just been conditioned to like screens since most have never experienced better. A lot of popular consumer trends are just a result of marketing and lack of knowledge/expertise with high end stuff.

Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean people who do are “duped” or “conditioned”. People are allowed to like what they like.

As someone who buys new cars do you think there will be a chance on your next upgrade you may think in hindsight you should've kept your older model?

Okay. I'm referring to high end stuff in general that most haven't ever so much as seen in person. They literally don't know any better and screens are what is common and cheap to implement with large market exposure.

Same reason people buy Nike shoes

The screen model is very cheap, I know cuz I've been repairing industrial touchscreens for almost 15 years.

And what people don't know is they are getting bigger not because they are better but many of the companies who were making smaller screens decided it wasn't profitable so they stopped making them and focused their business model going forward on bigger screens.

That's why screens are trending bigger- only looking on it from a price & availability perspective. lol

That has never happened any time I’ve upgraded, I don’t see it happening going forward.

Oh I'm VERY aware of all that. That's why I call them cheap because that's what they are, bespoke physical items are always more expensive and unique to interact with.

Speaking of new flagship cars, I heard that Lexus is using "exploding hood brackets" that eject the hood in n accident.

Article I read suggested a cost of a $2k each and the collision work was astronomical.
Wish I can remember the model but I imagine the insurance cost of these high end cars can't be cheap or much less when comparing to MB or other brands with high end cars.

PS- on the screen issue, I'm holding back for another thread cuz I'll end up writing a thesis rant on it, so leaving it alone for now. lol

Its the LC, and its for pedestrian safety since the hood is so low.

And my insurance on the S560 is the same as it was on the LS460.
