I did a test-drive of a new Chevy Bolt EUV a few days ago, and found the electric drivetrain extremely refined...a true pleasure to drive. You yourself may refer to it as "appliance-like"...but a lot of people like that kind of vanilla, including me. We like something smooth and quiet, and don't care if it doesn't have dragster-torque.

I got to drive PHEV Ford Fusion for a bit and it was awesome. The car felt light, quick and nimble. EV's have their place in today's mode of transportation.

I'd be willing to bet RR will be the first "traditional" manufacturer to be 100% EV. The silent, effortless thrust of electric motors could not possibly be more on-brand.

A PHEV isn't an EV, its a plug in hybrid. Drives like any other hybrid.

Totally agree, makes a ton of sense for a Rolls Royce.

yeah, EVs can be made to be extremely sophisticated, and match or easily exceed what RR buyers want with effortless drive.
No transmissions, no noise, just quiet and effortless continuous power.

It is by far the most luxurious powertrain.

The thing is, I doubt many owners are dissatisfied with the current V12s. Add an EV option, sure absolutely. But don't rip away the V12.

I don't think they really care about their V12s either.

They've already discontinued the Wraith and the Dawn, which are being replaced later this year by the Spectre EV. The Phantom/Cullinan platform was explicitly designed with EV usage in mind, and RR has said that they will discontinue all ICE production by 2030 at the latest.

Anyway....back to maintenance costs.

It's an EV because you can drive fully electric for 15 miles fully charged. Hybrids don't have this range. The most they can do is to go fully electric under a certain speed limit.

Its not at all the same thing, driving a full EV is a totally different experience.

The acronym PHEV stands for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Pretty silly to argue that something is not a hybrid when that's its literal name.

I think Toyota is the worst. As you deplete the EV only range on thrRAV…it defaults to standard hybrid system I believe. loses 75HP
