The Fusion I drove was still very snappy and quick in full EV mode.

But you do make a good point. The PHEV' EV mode may be quite underpowered against a full EV.

PHEV are designed to boost mpg and may not have the same amount of HP and torque as a BEV, but can still be pretty snappy as you mentioned. Certainly the High Voltage Battery and motors are a lot smaller. A BEV on the other hand fully depends on the electric motor(s) and High Voltage Battery to operate. For example my Polestar has two electric motors, one that drives the front wheels and one that drives the rear wheels and a 78 kWh HV battery pack. It's output is 487 HP/502 ft-lbs torque. Depending on road conditions, ambient temperature etc I could go 220 to 250 miles on a full charge.

If I'm schooling you on something you already know, please accept my apologies

No you're fine. I admit I have a limited experience with full EVs.

Your Polestar is packing some serious power.

That it does. If I put my foot to the floor (only done it a few times) it gives me a head rush! Power is instant, but totally controlled. It's smooth at 10 mph or 80 mph. I can't go back now to gasoline powered engines

It sounds like a blast to drive. I still adore the V6 in my car though lol. V6 and V8s are irreplaceable(IMO)

I still love both V6's and V8's, they are the only non EV'S I like to drive. Unfortunately, they are being killed off. In a few years you will only find them in used cars or specialty enthusiast cars

Ok then.....

that’s not what is being argued. The question is how it feels when the ICE never operates during the 20 or so miles on range. Which makes it a low powered EV.

But the real question is, who turned this into a EV thread again?

I owned a BMW 530e PHEV for a few years. If I ever wanted more power when I'm operating in full EV mode, the ICE always has to kick in. At least on the car I owned, the EV only mode was only meant to get you around town. If I ever wanted to accelerate onto a freeway, it meant that the ICE would have to kick in.

Edit: In terms of reliability, I had one check engine light during the time I owned it. The dealer diagnosed it as a software issue, and it never had a problem again in the 3 years I owned it.

The real test is to ask yourself, how many former Mercedes owners do you know, and how many former Lexus owners do you know?

Not sure which way you are going with this, but I know way more former Lexus owners.
