Infiniti Catching up?

"Really? Then how does my 3800lb '91 M5 with 280ft lbs of torque and 320+hp pull on a GS400 despite 300+lbs of gear in my car. Revs and gearing, that's how. The same way the new M5 with only slighly more torque but an extra 100hp is going to be much faster than the previous model. The Corvette always had gobs of torque but did not become really fast (Z06) until they added the ability to rev to 7000rpm"
I should have written more clearly.
In one part, looking at the A6 4.2, the E500 and the 5 Series, all in the same HP range, the GS is right there, looking at the infiniti with 30-40HP more and if cannot even get into the 5’s, to the comment I quoted, they are putting the right NUMBER of HP in their cars but is isn't showing when it is go time.
Overall this is just straight line performance and HP, which I am saying, means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Give me a 2005 GS 325hp doing sub 5.8 or less with the same level of quality and luxury as we are accustomed to from Lexus in a good looking body style and I, along with 95% of their customers will be sold. HP isn’t everything and even if that number really matters to you, there may still be cars out there with 30-40-50hp less that you cannot touch.
BTW, that M5 of yours is a special machine if I recall that year\series is pretty sick

i think it is saying
hp doesn't always equal the best, most luxurious, economical car. Its cool to see a 500 hp benz, but when it gives you fits...not saying every car does...and you gave MAJOR BANK for it, it just kind of makes you angry that its not too reliable, but on the other extreme posh is nice, but sometimes were all not in a comfy mood.
so who knows. i guess thats why cars are different

No....definitely NOT. In fact, they are going the other way. So their cars have HP and torque....so what? Lots of cars have power. Ever since Renault took over Nissan (Infiniti's parent corporation) the fit-and-finish of Nissan and infiniti products has taken a nose dive. Yes, the 350Z, G35, Altima, Maxima, FX35/45, etc... appeal to some people, but look at the interiors and the paint jobs on these cars. Cheap, poor-quality plastics. Bland surfaces. Poor finish. Hardware pieces breaking right off. Their products have become a lot like like GM's lately. I am an auto consultant....it is part of my job to look at and rate cars.
Infiniti is making lot's of noise and is selling much better but hell, they had no where to go but up.
Lexus is now regarded as making some of the finest vehicles on earth. Lexus-like is now a word used to describe perfection of quality. Lexus has sold 200k+ luxury cars 3 years in a row.
If u want 500hp in a Lexus, YOU CAN DO IT. Buy a IS 300/GS 300/SC 300 and turbo it. But DO NOT expect that from the factory. 500hp is HIGH STRESS on an engine, non-economical and not with the LExus philosphy with building cars/trucks.
If I decide I want a manual high horsepower car, instead of praying Lexus made one, M5 here I come.

1. ES330 leads in its class with sales of 5,128 units in September of 2003. It even outsells notables such as the Toyota Avalon, Dodge Intrepid, and VW Passat (month of Sept. 03). Go figure!!!!
2. YTD, LS430 is outselling both the BMW 7 series and Mercedes S-class. I think you should rephrase that as "LS430's sell like hot cakes".
Unfortunately, the IS300, GS300, and GS430 sales are lagging badly. Hopefully the upcoming GS redesign will put the GS back on the map...as for the IS?
