Nobody in this thread seems to be bringing up the fact that the big plastic engine covers also trap heat, which may be nice in the winter when you want a quick warm-up, but prevent too much heat from escaping in the summer.

I'm sure vehicle engineers don't put covers on the engine that trap "too much" heat.

Not really a concern with modern cooling systems due to how crazy balanced and effective they are, hotspots are just not a thing anymore and they actually WANT to have a very predicable temp and do all the control via the rad fans. A huge amount of effort is spent to make sure airflow is not able to go to certain areas and underhood panels are part of that

It's almost safe to say that ALL 2GR engines will eventually leak from there if you drive them long enough. A simple oil leak that costs $2-3k to repair due to a poor engine design AND no access.

Lol! Nah, this leak is a non-issue and I have seen over 15 cars with this leak with 150-250k miles and it never reaches the ground and there is no good reason to fix it. Plus if the engine is facing the correct direction like in the IS/GS this leak is no big deal but Lexus has many cars that are wrong wheel drive and the result of that is worse serviceability.

Absolutely this... as if engineers are working purely on aesthetics.

i like to keep the little cover off of my 55 engine to keep that supercharger pulley nice and visible! i also really like how they put the oil filter at the top so there's never a mess when you remove it

I'm thinking it has to trap some heat but maybe the design allows for it.

The hood traps heat too I'm thinking.

That's a nice touch, makes oil changes easier.
Now if they would put the drain plug up top too, that would be killer!

Then there would be no need to go under the car and get dirty just to do an oil change.

Doesn't need garnishes or covers at all.

Good example of Ultra Luxury aka A Notch Above Premium or Luxury. lol
Stricker's V-12 could get away without a cover too IMO.

This thread reminds me of VW salesman jumping on his front doors, proving how much better german cars are than Japanese.
