It's probably for the best anyway. I really don't want to buy anything right now.

It appears that almost all of the Grand Highlander's sales are completely cannibalized from the regular Highlander.
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota just completely discontinues the regular Highlander in the US soon.
Toyota’s sales figures for the first half of 2024 were up by 14.7 percent compared to last year, spearheaded by the growing popularity of its electrified vehicle range. A notable exception was the Highlander which saw its sales drop by 46.9 percent in H1 2024, with Toyota relying on the success of the longer Grand Highlander to stay on track.
The Highlander recorded 60,108 sales so far in 2024 compared to the 113,264 units in the same period last year (-53,156 units). However, 55,382 units of the Grand Highlander filled the gap, hinting that a significant portion of prospective buyers are being attracted by the larger of the two models.

yup people don't want a 3 row with a useless 3rd row if they can get a useful 3rd row.

Makes perfect sense, no reason to have two Highlanders. Nobody buys a 3 row crossover and says "You know, I want the one with less room"

I think there will be a place for the HL. There will be people that dont need the space of a GH, but want more refinement and space than what the RAV4 can provide. As long as the combined GH and HL meets or exceeds the numbers that the HL used to sell at, its not a problem for Toyota.
