Default WTFFFF is wrong with this BMW??

Edit: this is a diesel.

Literally sounded like an older 3500 and the smoke was bad. I'm not exaggerating, I thought there was some redneck in a 3500 truck directly ahead of this X5 that might as well have been rolling coal, it was THAT bad. Some pretty lady in her 30s driving it, oblivious. This was so bad I started a thread because I want the German pros to weigh in here. It LITERALLY sounded identical to a 3500.

Probably just a poorly maintained diesel. If it's blowing black smoke then it was overfueling.

I can't stress enough how loud and ratty it sounded. I seriously was looking for the huge old clunker ahead of her but I was low in the convertible.

It's hard to tell but it looks like there might be soot around the tailpipes, but it might just be the lighting.

There was plenty of soot, the thing was smoking like an old Mercedes... It was soooooo loud.

Crappy pics but the exhaust was black.

haha not phones though.

also old kinda implies badly worn or beat up. Which isn't always the case.

BMW has PCV issues on a bunch of their engines.

Oh I know what that is, I don't even have to guess. The PCV is failed due to a leak at the upper timing covers and that cascaded to a valve sea failure, the car ends up running rich as hell and burning oil like it's water.

I've repaired many of those. Always good money but I really dislike working on them

Why did it sound almost like a scaled down dump truck?

I thought I was going to pass an F450 rolling coal. It was that loud.
