Similar story. A friend of mine had her car stolen. Insurance payed her on it after a month. She lives in the city so she figured she didn't really need a car anyway.
A year later while walking to the grocery store. There's her car, sitting with the keys in the ignition. She calls the police, and they decide to do a little stakeout see if they can catch the thief. Three days later and no one shows, they hand the car over to her. All her stuff was still inside. The car had 12,000 more miles on it. The insurance company didn't even want the money back when she called them. Instead, they jacked up her premium.
