I'm with you on this one. I think this sort of thing is just a fad. To each their own I guess. To me it's the same level as putting on 24" wheels on a car... ruin handling for looks. I guess I'll never understand. It's just my opinion and we are in the internet... so you can take it with a grain of salt.
