Speeding Ticket
Hi,
I got my first speeding ticket in my life (42 in 25).
The envelope gave me three options
1 - Plead guilty & pay a fine & it goes on my record
2 - Take an online traffic school & pay $ / no conviction / doesn't affect insurance.
3 - Plead not guilty & go to court | If cop doesn't show up, there's really no incentive for the cop to show up, then the case gets dropped and I don't get any charges.
I'm leaning on doing #2 because I won't get a conviction / not on my record.
I want to do #3 because based on my friend's experiences in the same town when they got pulled over for doing worse (80 in 35, 70 in 35), their cops didn't show up and they got their cases dropped.
The only thing about #3 is that I'm going away on Christmas Day until January 9th and then I have school / volunteering everyday.
Ideas?

Couldn't I just point to my flawless previous driving record and make a plea bargain that I would pay the fee, no conviction / points, get my license.

as for your ticket I would take #2....was that how fast you where going or did they lower it? I think 22+ over the limit they consider reckless driving so your probably best to take the extra fees and just watch your driving for the 60 days or what ever it is now to make sure you don't get busted again.

The traffic school can be started and stopped while youre online. You can do it on a tablet or your phone while you watch tv at night. Take a week or two to finish it if you want.
#3, make sure to wear a suit and tie if you attempt. If you make a deal, you'll still have to pay court fees. If you can some how get the date pushed to a new date, it is less likely the cop will show. Once, my attorney was late and the judge pushed it a week for me, the cop didn't show the second time and I got off. He was there the first round though.

I got a speeding ticket too for doing 42 in a 25 two blocks away from my house two years ago. Cop was sitting under a tunnel and I happen to be the only car. I just paid $147 and took the traffic school to not have it on my records. However, you might get your ticket dismissed in court. When I was in a car accident, I had to go to traffic court twice. Everyone there wore their regular clothes and the judge doesn't even look to see how you're dressed. There were maybe 20 people called before me about their speeding tickets and all, except for two were dropped because the cops did not show up. So you might get lucky if you go to court but I'd just pay the $147 over the $127 and take the traffic class online.

i've done the traffic school twice and I just recently got a ticket for rolling a stop. I would take the traffic school if you have the time/money and don't want to be bothered with going to court and trying to get it thrown out. It's really going to come down to personal preference.

Do #2, learn your lesson, and slow down. #3, IMO, is too risky, because the cop may decide to show up. Just because the cops didn't show for your friends' cases is no guarantee they will stay away from yours.
