Default Dealer Recommended Maint - Scam?

Had my car in for oil change. Got the typical "upsell" on other maintenance they claimed I needed.

- Brake fluid change
- PCV Valve
- Fuel injection cleaning

Declined all so I could research first.

I am at 40K and never had brake fluid changed. I do see this should have been done at 30K so ok they seem to be correct on this one. Will get it done when I get new brakes later this year.

However, nowhere in the maintenance schedule or users manual do I see reference to PCV Value or fuel injection cleaning. Did a search on the boards and didn't find much either.

It is a shame every time I go to the dealer I need to be in complete "fact finding" mode as I don't trust them.

You're due for a brake fluid flush. It's best to have a dealer due it. It gets all the moisture out of the brake fluid and prevents corrosion in the system. As for the pvc valve, it's worth changing but you can do it yourself. Buy the part from lexus. As for the fuel injector cleaning, you can go to Autozone and buy a can of seafoam and put it in the gas tank and you'll be ok.

I have had vehicles with over 150,000 miles on them, and never had the brake fluid changed. I was always under the impression that it was a sealed system. Also never bothered with the PCV valve or fuel injector cleaner with these vehicles. I always figured if it was not broke, why fix it?
