Humming Noise
Hi Guys, first time posting here.
This is a great site, I've learned so much from reading the posts here, thank you very much!
Anyway, I have a question for everyone.
I recently purchased a 06 GS430, and I seem to have a problem.
When I hit about 45mph, and start cruising (let go of the gas and just roll), I get this weird humming noise. I took it to Lexus, and they advised that it might be the bearing, so I changed it, but the sound is still there.
Any ideas what this could possibly be?
Thank you very much

Well, I changed one bearing, the one they recommended me to change. Pretty sure its not road noise, as its really, really loud. It goes away once I hit about 50 mph as well. I'll try greasing the third member as well.
Thanks
Thanks

If the noise occurs mainly when you let off the gas (and gets softer or goes away when you step on the gas again) then it's possible it could be coming from the rear diff. Check the gear oil level. Drain out the gear oil and inspect the gear oil for any metal shavings and/or chunks.

Thanks, I'll check out the gear oil as well.
It is under warranty, but the prior owner got into a minor accident, and had some work done on some of the parts (upper arm or someting, not sure), so I'm afraid to take it in for this noise. I've taken it in once already, and they said since it was repaired by someone besides a lexus dealership, it's not covered under warranty (which i understand), but I was charged like $300 just to check the thing out. And they told me that I should change the bearing, and I did, but that didn't fix it. So if I take it in again, I'l probably have to pay another couple hundred dollars just to get it checked out.

Here are the possibilities for the noise.
Oil level is low or wrong type.
Ring gear or drive pinion (Worn or chipped)
Backlash adjustment (Defective)
Preload adjustment (Defective)
Tooth contact between ring gear and drive pinion (Defective)
Bearing (Worn)
