where was it smoking from. if it was his wheel area, then likely the brake calipers have frozen/seized. Have that checked.

I know this may sound like a ridiculous question, but is it possible that he was driving with the parking brake engaged?

Does the wheel rotate "freely" while in neutral?

BTW Thursday morning is still a "go" for me. lemme know

yeah, id say check the brakes for binding... jack up the rear and see if each side rotates freely... make sure you use jack stands... then with it still in neutral, try rotating the driveshaft...

but i think its the brakes, seized caliper or binding e-brake cable. if it where the rear end, it wouldve seized up and stop rotating, or the teeth wouldve broken off or something.. GL with that. did you get my PM about the claddings?

maybe your buddy drives with both feet.....left on brakes....right on gas....and presses both while driving.
