Default Freeway Service Patrol - Yay or Nay?

Is it only me or does anyone else think that the Freeway Service Patrol tow truck system is idiotic? On three separate occasions, I've seen a stranded motorist with two or three FSP tow trucks to the rescue. I'm not an expert, but how many tow trucks does it take to help a stranded motorist?

I find it inconceivable that while our teachers are getting their hours cut, a non-crucial program that costs tax payers $3.9 million is implemented.

wow 2-3 trucks helping, that must be some one important. a friend's wife blown 2 tires on the h1 a few months ago, she couldn't get one FSP truck to help because it was almost 7pm and thats what time they stop running. it was around 6:15-6:20 when she called.

Not a fan of teachers getting furlough days as it cost me money as well when I need to figure out who watches my son on Fridays. I also think it is a waste for 3 tow trucks to show up for a single job, so they need better communication there. However, if it helps move stalled and broken down cars off the road during traffic hour any bit faster I'm all for it. Since I have to drive from Ewa Beach to Hokulani Elm. near UH to drop my son off at school, every single minute makes all the difference. Sometimes I leave home at 6:45AM, and we make it to his school at 8:00AM just in time. Sometimes we leave at the same time and I get him to school at 8:03AM and he has to run to class to beat the bell, or I we are late after 8:05AM and I have to park the car and take him to the office to get a pass. 1 minute earlier or later for me makes a huge difference. Leaving much earlier also means my 6 year old would loose sleep time and I don't want him dead tired at school all day.

Yes...pretty silly to have multiple FSP trucks for only a single stranded motorist...they must be bored of driving around.

I see both sides to it. I see the FSP trucks helping people tow/fix their cars, which helps ease traffic. But I also see it as a waste of money to implement a new fleet of trucks, new employees in our (f)ailing economy, and taking away work from local businesses.

Why couldn't we contract an existing business(es) with their own trucks and use that money to help support them? That extra money spent for the new tow trucks that the FSP uses is ridiculous. You know how many text books that money could have bought for our kids? I see books in schools that are older than ME (and yes, compared to some of you, I'm old )

Wasn't the money federal money though? Perhaps when it came down to low bids and what not.
