New Laws
A friend of mine just forwarded the following e-mail to me. Thought I would share this info since I wasn't aware of this new law myself.
check out the AAA site for more new laws that will take effect in 2005

Subject: New Law in California (Pass on to your family and friends)
There is a new law effective January 1, 2005. During daylight hours, if the
windshield wipers of your vehicle are in use while you're driving the vehicle, the
headlamps of the vehicle must be on. A co-worker was stopped by the highway
patrol Wednesday morning, January 5, 2005 because he violated the new law.
The first ticket is $45. The second is $150.
According to my co-worker, the Officer who gave him the ticket said he and his
fellow Officers do not like the new law. He personally felt the new law should've
been advertised before subjecting unsuspecting California motorists to it. He also
told him that California State Legislators dreamed up this law to help close the
budget gap or something like that

We've had the same law in NC (and its in other states) for some time. Theory is even in daytime visibility is often impaired by the rain and burning lights makes it easier to see other cars.
I just got used to it... not a big deal and mostly makes sense.

The sun will reflect the mist being kicked up by cars. So if the lights are on, You can easily spot cars because of the tail lights.

My dad told me when he lived in Louisiana back in the 70s, there was a similar law that applied. If you have to turn on your wipers, you must have your headlights on. I don't see nothing wrong with it, I think it's a great idea.

i don't think DLR lights are okay. well, that's just my guess.
well, i am used to turning my lights on when it rains from living in virginia so it's now a habit for me to turn the lights on during rain.
i think in the very near future, auto manufacturers will make this an automatic feature (wiper on, lights on). many drivers today rely on auto lights so they don't even bother touching the on/off switch, rain or not.
