For places like Asia/Japan, we were recco'd IACE. They specialize in Japan travel and their rates when we went were about half of what the typical published rates were. United from John Wayne to Kagoshima through United site was like $1,600 for one passenger. Wife and I flew the exact same itinerary through United but booked through IACE at about $1,600 for both of us and that included the Japan domestic flights.

As for mid-east, I'd look into the mid-east communities for a travel agent. I dunno if I saw one in Artesia, India Town.
