Default LA to Vegas drive...

Hi all, it's been at least 5 years since I drove to Vegas with my family...we're thinking of flying this time as the traffic last time was really bad, especially as we were coming in to the Henderson/Vegas area.

Has anyone driven there recently? How is the road and traffic? I'm wondering if the traffic has truly gotten worse, and the road work is done etc.

I drive out there anywhere from 2-4 times a year. The traffic really depends on when you go ( ie...trade shows going on in vegas, etc).

They are still doing some road work around Barstow....avg drive time is around 3hrs from Rancho Cucamonga to Vegas.

THe drive shouldnt be that bad. I usually drive at night and hardly encounter any traffic.

I'll be going again early Jan. for the CES show.

I prefer driving than flying to Vegas. The time it takes to get through the airports these days, driving is better. I usually leave around 10 am weekday and without stopping I can make it in about 3 and a half hours from Hollywood.
Remember to double down!

yeah i prefer driving as well, it's just a very short drive. i guess i must be driving fast, coz' it usually takes about 3 hour at most for me to get there. comparing to my drive between socal and norcal that's nothing

Cool

I drive it 8-10 times a year and as was mentioned the key is the "when". Try going Friday pm or come back Sunday pm and it will take you 4-5 hours. If you have a flexible schedule early morning is usually the best I have found, just set the cruise on 80 mph and in 3 hours your at the table. They have opened up 3 lanes from Victorville to Barstow but it is still bumpy outside Barstow to Baker with some minor construction. Have a great time in SIN City and remember, "What happens in Vegas....Stays in Vegas"

Thank you so much for the information guys...looks like we might drive then. Probably early morning departure to avoid the traffic, maybe get there for lunch! Any more suggestions will be appreciated, we wont go for several weeks! Haven't decided which show to watch either...

Got to eat at Carnigie's at the Mirage. Great NY Deli sandwiches. Kind of price but the size of the sandwich explains it.

yeah, leave before 8 in the morning and you should be able to get tehre before lunch. that's if you don't stop by the outlet, which we do all the time (and have lunch there). we continue to go to LV after lunch and by the time we get there to check in, it's afternoon and we get ready for dinner, haha
