Default Need Help!!! TIRE PROBLEM

Sup,

I had a nail my pass/rear tire. Well obviously the air slowly is getting out. Took it to the dealer and got quoted for $292 installed. Calling around but lot of tire dealers dont carry it or the price is crazy.. Need some advice please. The tire is TOYO PROXES 245/40/ZR18 97W. The tires have 17000 miles on it so it may hurt more since I MAY???? have to change the other rear tire too...right?

HELP!!!!

I am in the IE area but OC is cool.

thanks.

Ali,

Did you check to see if the tire can be patched? Usually more cost effective to do the repair than to replace it. You may want to check that out. america's tire does free flat repairs.

Dude, get a "radial patch" done for like $8-$12 at a local tire shop and be done with it.

Thanks for the reply guys.....

Here is the problem....the nail went very close to the side wall and per several people it is unrepairable. Believe me i did try get repaired first. Well (i know some of you will hate me for this ) i went to a discount tire and the guy quoted me $355 for 2 tires installed.

Here is the odd part...all day today the LOW TIRE light did not come on. I did fill the tire with air this morning on the way to work and drove all they way to YORBA LINDA and back..its a 70mile roundtrip and tire was fine???

so did you have it plugged/patched, or are you driving with a nail stuck in it?!?!

If the air didn't leak at all, that means the nail didn't penetrate to the inside layer....it's just a surface thing. There is no need to plug or patch it. A tire that DOES need to be replaced/repaired would leak out air as soon as you remove the nail. You can check by filling the tire with air, then immersing it in water. if you don't feel like taking off the wheel, you can just spray water on it and carefully watch bubbles rapidly being spit out of the hole.

Sounds like you got lucky.
