Polling all SoCal IS Tinters...
For those of you living in Southern California, what percentage tint do you have on your car, and how many times have you been pulled over for it? I'm particularly looking for people who have put darker than 35% tint on their IS's.
I, too, want to install the darkest tint possible, and I see a TON of cars all over SoCal with probably between 5% and 20% tint on their front windows.
I just can't believe they are all getting ticketed for it...are cops letting up or are drivers getting more bold?
Are you getting pulled over?
Thanks,
Ed

I have 5% all around. After 6 and a half months I had 1 fix-it ticket for it but that was because I was speeding and the cop decided to write me up for the tint too. So if I didn't speed then it would be 7 months going without a ticket for my tint. Hope this helps!

I have 20 back and 40 fronts no tickets yet in 5 weeks.
Blue Onyx, Cashmere int.
And its usually CHP that'll get you, and will pull you over specifically for a tint only infraction. Other agencies might get you if they are pulling you over for something else.

1993 SC400 - more than 7 years
35% - front, quarter windows and rear ...
2003 IS300 - recently and my son and I am being very careful about dodging the Irvine cops.
20% - front, back and rear
I might change that to 35% front and 20% for the back and rear.
1999 GS300
Work in progress ... possibily 35% front, 20% back and rear
So far, we have not been pulled over regarding this.
Legally in CA ... it is 30% for the back windows. For the front it is a gray area, some say you cannot have any tint, but you can get away with 35% or to be safe 50%. I have had 35% in the front, back and rear and i have not had any trouble (even in Irvine, CA where the cops seems to stop everyone). My main purpose of tint is for shade, glare and UV and even at 50% it is not bad, but I like the 20% best of all.
There is something new now called all clear for the front windshield. You can put an all clear on the inside of the front windshield that will take some of the glare and 95+% of the UV away. The other benefit of this all clear is that if the windshield breaks, you are protected from the glass fragments from splattering into your face. So far, it seems that the cost for this is somewhere in the $250 price range.
I am not aware of its popularity with tint shops yet, but I know someone at http://www.hambekcustoms.com/main.php that will do it for you. His name is Ed and he is in Santa Ana and he can be reached at 714-318-3406. Just tell him that Winston referred you from the this user forumn.
