Default Hommie got a ding

Man, I just got my first car ding today, and I'm pissed. This Bentley parked next to me and opened his car door right into my passenger rear door. Dude, i didnt see him do it, but i know it's him. My office building doesnt have assigned parking, but seeing the height of his door and the length of his door i know it's him. Man if I were a punk kid I'd ding his door right back! The ding is 1/2 the size of a dime. No paint off, but finish is scruffed. The indentation is really shallow, but now i notice it and its gonna bug me a while, especially cus this was the first car ding on a brand new car (got 3 weeks ago).

Any of you can give your hommie advice on how to keep your ride ding-free? Any of you successfully kept your car pristine perfect for longer than a month after you got it? The thing with these dings.....they are not worth repairing, but they bug the crap out of you. Damn man... notice I aint bashing illegals this time.....not that illegals wouldnt drive a Bentley, but I'm pretty sure it was the dumb white guy who owns that Bentley. Dude....so painful to see my ride getting its devirginization....can anyone relate? Also, does anyone know of a place to fix these things in case I get a few more later?

Ah, the first ding is always the worst. The hardest part is that no matter how careful you are, things like this will happen. The world is full of careless and inconsiderate drivers.

If the ding isn't too bad, just let it be. If it really bothers you, just look up a dent wizard in your area. A while ago, the rear 3/4 panel of my car was damaged in a parking lot while I was at dinner. Paint was smudged and it looked like the panel was pushed in. My detailer was able to remove 99% of the paint damage and the dent removal guy fixed the panel perfectly.

he seem to know what he's doing according to his website. But if he uses a drill to make a hole to access my door panel, i will have to pass man.

I feel for ya.

The other day I took the car to get smogged and the tech dinged the paint on the top part of the fender. When I came back and confronted him he denied it of course. In the process, of inspecting the car, he bunged up the nut on the strut tower bar and lost one of the nuts on the engien cover.

When I mentioned these things to him, he acted as if this wre some POS that who would care. He put on some $.03 worn/scratched nut to hold the engine cover down and said, "same thing...no big deal."

The attitude of some people...almost makes me want to pound on them.

i find that the only people who care about dings and chips are the owners of the cars. So its natural to be more pissed than the person who did the ding to you. I dont particularly pay attention to other people's dings when i ride their cars. I'm about over my ding incident now... it's so small and i actually have to look close to even find it. So i figure it's not worth the aggrevation for the inevitable. I am gonna accumulate a few more before going for the PDR. Sounds like a nice techinique.

I just wanted to respond to this as it was brought to my attention that there was a misunderstanding... I had exchanged emails with Kaius88 and his concern was if I drill when I work on doors... In my response I said there are some instances where it's necessary, but USUALLY not... Without further information on the damage, I could not say for sure... I offered to check it out, or if they wanted, could just provide me with the location of the damage and I could tell them if it would be something I could get at without drilling... I guess somewhere along the way there was a misunderstanding...

So to clarify, to Kaius88 and anyone else considering PDR, regarding the doors, if the damage is at the lower 1/5 of the door AND there is no other access points, the only option MAY be to drill or leave it alone... For the most part, they can be accessed through the top...

I have personally not drilled a door yet... So the statement of, "But he uses a drill to make a hole to access my door panel" seems a little unfair...

Sorry for the misunderstanding...

It was my fault for the misunderstanding... I meant to say "if he uses a drill, i'd have to pass". Sorry for the misunderstanding. That was actually written before we had our email exchange, so I'm more clear about it now. Again.... I didnt mean to claim that Steve uses a drill..... I meant to say that a drill is not for me at this time.

Im sure my ding can be accessed from the window just like how a slim-jim can be stuck in there. However, I was checking my window the other day, and notice that the window is really tight against the rubber blade and i wonder if there is enough clearance in this case. I mean this car is brand new and there might be machinery inside the door that doesnt allow access. I might have to stop by your shop one of these days so you dont have to make a trip if things dont work out.

peace

Thanks for the response Kaius88... Just keep me in mind when you are ready... I know what you are saying about the top of the door being tight, but it should not be a problem...

I always tell people, I hope you don't need my service, but if you do, give me a call...

Steve-

I have a ding on my passenger side rear quarter panel. It's right about where the gas filler door would be if it was on that side. It's just a little above the crease of the rear fender and very subtle. How fixable is this ding? And how much?

Thanks,
TJ

HI TJ,

The best thing to do would be to call Steve. He isn't on the computer as he is working all day and is all over the place fixing dings. hahah

Steve just left my house to fix a ding on my driver-side door. Very professional individual and a total perfectionist. On top of that, he is a great guy. I felt bad because when he started working on my car, it was cool and cloudy but by the time he finished, the sun was out and it was hot. Steve, I'm sorry I couldn't put you in the garage but you saw the mess, ugh. Thanks again Steve.

I can't recommend Steve enough. He worked magic on two huge dings on my previous car (A 99 BMW M-Coupe) and he once again earned my respect by taking out countless dings on my new car (A used 02 SC430).

Trust me when i say that PDR is the way to go and I can say first hand that Steve does a fantastic job.

Ken

Note: The SC was so bad that I was kind of embarrassed to show people my new car. I got a deal on it just because of the dings. I took it to Steve and he almost went into shock but a couple of days later (yes that many dings), my doors looked brand new and the car just looks incredible.
