The Department of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture is presently undertaking an extensive exercise throughout the island, as part of efforts to sensitise all owners of major hotels and restaurants to the closed season on lobsters, which runs from May1 through to August 31 each year.

The characteristics of good chinese restaurant:
1) always crowded at any time of day
2) No sign that says "No MSG" (as previously mentioned)
3) No fortune cookies at the end (as previously mentioned)
4) "Dap Toy", meaning sharing tables with people outside your party.
5) Live animals in fishtank.
6) Cash only....no Credit Cards accepted.
7) Nice size portions with no fillers (no small entree on big bed of lettuce)
8) FREE RICE
9) FREE TEA
10) Unhappy waiters/waitresses (they work long hours and dont get paid much, and the savings are passed on to the customers!)
I would have to say Sam Woo BBQ is darn good for casual chinese food fans. But if you are serious about Chinese seafood, you gotta visit Newport Seafood in San Gabriel (on Las Tunas Blvd right before it becomes Main St., walking distance from the SG Hospital). That place is always packed, and most locals swear its the best chinese food in LA!
