You're at Orange County?
I suggest you head down to Temecula for some wine tasting. It's a month from harvest, so the area will be very plush with fully bloomed vines. Nice setting to have a picnic at (and you can pick up a bottle of wine while you're there!).
Later that night, book a night's stay at Pechanga which is a ten minute drive from Temecula Wine Valley. Gamble a little, perhaps go out to the nightclub (I think it's called "Rain"), and get some rest.
The next day, drive to the Wild Animal Park, or check out Balboa Park in San Diego for a full day of art. You can also catch a play/show at the park at night.
Drive back to Orange County when you're all done.
That's a great "escape" that I've always done...
