Default motorcycle question

Hi,

Ive recently purchased a ktr150,a 150cc motorcycle made by kymco. The speedo are all in km and the conversion is approx. 1.7 km per every mile. So my problems comes in when i switch into 4th gear...generally i switch gears every 15-20 km..the bike doesnt have a tach so i dont know what revs it is at, so basicaly 1st-0, 2nd- 20,3rd-40, 4th at 60...the problem actually comes in when switching into 4th as i pull the clutch in to switch into 4th and as im giving it gas i can feel a huge jerk that forces the front end down on the bike as the speed decreases and the it revvvs insanely loud. Ive had this problem for a while but never got a chance to figure out why it does that, ive also tried putting into 4th gear at lower speeds but it also tends to rev insanely loud. Ive asked the mechanic last time i got a oil change but he took it out and came back and said there was no problem....which i dont get? ....so any help with be great?...Am i riding it wrong or wat? im pretty new at riding motorcycles so any help or hints would be great...im actualy in another country right now that doesnt offer any msf course that i know of in english..sooo...please offer some help as how i can correct this problem?

Hmmm...

Kymco is a Korean? manufacturer of motorcycles, and I know of their bikes, but I've never riden one.

The tranny may not have been engineered very well with the engine, which may cause the jerking and high revving, if your mechanic says "it's normal."

Keep practicing and learning the clutch "feel," and perhaps you'll get used to it. Otherwise, if the bike just "doesn't feel right," you may have to trade it in for something that is more appropriate to your driving style.

Give it some time. And practice.

Good luck!

hey,

thks for the suggestion...but i tried everything..i went down a open stretch of road and tried various clutch positions...but nothing.. i cant really trade it, since mmy options are pretty limited im trying to figure out what im doing wrong...its kind of werid actually...most people i ask said there is no problem with theirs...but i tried riding in 4th gear various times and the vibration was more than i could handle. oh btw kymco is a taiwan based company as i learned after moving here..its the largest motorcycle manufacturer in taiwan...i still think it might be something wrong that im doing..but but i guess ill keep trying...thks philip...if there is anythign you can suggest that i can do please let me know

the shift pattern is a basic 1-N-2-3-4-5 right?
Can you have someone else ride it to see if it does the same thing? (preferrably an experienced rider?) sounds like your 4th gear isn't your 4th gear actually? not sure.

Sorry to ask how long have you owned the bike? What is the shift pattern?
any speed limited control on your bike? Is it street legal bike? If you are close to westminster, Orange county, I am more than happy to take a look at the bike...
Hope this help

alrighty,

shift pattern i believe i already posted it ...its the cycle type gearing ....
Neutral-1st-2nd-3rd-4th-5th

no speed limiter that i know of, im the first owner of the bike as its brand new, and yes its street legal in taiwan. I hope i answered all your questions...as to finding a experienced rider...its pretty hard to find one near my area in taiwan as i bought the bike from a dealer a few cities over.

website for the bike:http://www.kymco.com.tw/products/models/ktr/ktr.asp

and...picture..

that kymco link didn't work for me.
Sounds like the bike only has 3 gears-?????? if you can get to 80(mph? kph?) with just 3 gears, isn't that ok? how much faster do you really want to go on a 150?

hey,

the link works..i just double checked...maybe ur browser doesnt accept taiwan hosted sites...either way i am sure it has 5 gears because i can step down or kick up 5 times and itll go back to neutral.well im concerned about wether or not im riding it wrong and not about how fast i can go on the 3 gears..i mean i did buy a bike with 5 gears and i figure why not use it...lol...a 150cc top speed is around 130kmph..

I dont really know exactly what is the problem....
But you may check with the carburetor, the clutch, coil ( IC) ...some bad coil does the same as you described....
Hope this help
