Default Day trip in San Diego?

Got tomorrow off and I thought I'd be impulsive...want to do a short day trip for about 5-6 hours.

Suggestions?

Balboa Park.

Have lunch at the Prado, visit a couple of museums, and if you go on a Thursday, you can take African Drumming and Dance lessons at the WorldBeat Center...

I second this. Balboa Park is great place to visit. Oh and a meal at the Prado, would be excellent

Thanks guys

Started the day late due to a throbbing headache so we didn't leave till after 10. Stopped in Carlsbad for lunch, walked around some shops then headed to La Jolla for the shops. Coronado was the next stop for a few photographs of downtown from the other side. I love Moo Time's ice cream at Hotel Del. Then a leisure stroll around the shops and walk along the strand watching the sunset. Horton Plaza following...I'd have had dinner in the gaslamp area but parking is such a PITA I just wanted to get out of the traffic.

Hit the road and since it was so late, we stopped back in Carlsbad at an Italian place we'd seen while wandering earlier that day. Vigilucci's Cucina Italiana on State St. We walked in about 10 minutes till closing and the manager said no problem...one of the most wonderful Italian meals I can recollect having in a long time. Farfalle pasta in a porcini mushroom basil sauce with giant scallops. Wife had a vegetarian linguini with a white wine clear garlic sauce. Got back home almost 11'ish. I dunno where all the time went...but it was a fun day.

We've had Prado on a past visit My usual Balboa routine is to take in the Japanese garden and the current photo exhibit. If not for my late start time, I'd have considered the zoo.

Liz...didn't occur about the migrating whales. Catalina would have been nice too. Hmm...

How's Aquarium of the Pacific in LB?

One of the pics from our short visit to Coronado.

Point Loma seems to frequently have some sort of cloud hanging around.
