Default Now I know where all the IS owners are!

I live in the Inland Empire, well, pretty close to LA county border. Today, I went to Ventura to visit Patagonia in regards to their business operations (wow, my IS used a lot of gas from Inland all the way to Ventura--shocked).

Anyways, where I live, there are hardly any IS owners. If I get lucky, I'll see a couple. But in LA and the Ventura area, OMG!!!!! I saw more than 10 2nd gen IS owners already. All within a few hours!!!! Most of them are bone stock, but one was lowered and one had an HKS Hi-Power exhaust.

Then get this. I also saw a Lamborgini and the new Porsche GT3!!!! Oh to top it off, haha, I saw the GMC DeLorean driving on the 101 South bound freeway in LA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 Yeah, baby. Mr. Fusion was right there on top and everything!!! Some older guy was driving it. Oh, my friend took picts of it. If you don't believe me, I will post them as soon as he can email me those picts. He got a good shot of the Lambo and GT3 as well as the DeLorean.

What a day!!!! Saw a lot of good cars and finally, more IS!!!!! I was back to back with about 4 of them on the freeway today. So now I know where you IS owners live around.....

Ha, I can imagine some of you thinking: "Only in southern California", lol.

I don't care if they're on the forum or not. It's just the idea of seeing more IS that thrills me. I love it. That translates to more concerns related to the IS, more part availability, and just more recognition of the IS.

You saw a GMC Delorean? I thought Delorean Motor Company made Deloreans...

There are a couple 'Time Machine' Deloreans on the road around here - there's actually a shop in Burbank that specializes in doing those conversions. I love the custom plate on this one...

The license plate looks different on that car. Also the one I saw had a Mr. Fusion on top. But it looks very much like that one. It was crazy. I nearly jumped out of my seat when I saw it. The car was produced and manufactured by GMC. Technically, I don't see any reason why they are illegal to drive on the streets. As long as the lights work the way they should, have seat belts, emissions, all lights check out, 4-tires and door, its all good.

Mmm, not really. You're thinking of DMC, not GMC.

Got it. I had to search it on wikipedia to find out. I guess to me, it looks like a futuristic "GMC" logo. Except the G was a D.

"The De Lorean DMC-12 is an American sports car that was manufactured by the De Lorean Motor Company from 1981 to 1983 in Northern Ireland. It is most commonly known simply as the De Lorean, as it was the only model ever produced by the company. The DMC-12 featured gull-wing doors with a fiberglass "underbody", to which non-structural brushed stainless steel panels are affixed. (what a design). A De Lorean was featured as a homemade time machine in the Back to the Future trilogy.

The first prototype appeared in March 1977, and production officially began in 1981 (with the first DMC-12 rolling off the production line on January 21) at the DMC factory in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland. During its production, several aspects of the car were changed, such as the hood (bonnet) style, wheels and interior. About nine thousand DMC-12s were made before production stopped in late 1982. Today, about 6,500 DeLorean Motor Cars are believed to still exist."

Manufacturer: De Lorean Motor Company
Production: 1981–1983 , lol, only two years?!?!
Class: Sports car
Body style(s): 2-door coupe
Layout: RR layout
Engine(s): 2.8 L (2849 cc) PRV V6

Length: 166 in (4216 mm)

Height: 44.9 in (1140 mm) doors closed, 77.2 in (1961 mm) doors open

What's interesting is that there is a GMC connection. John Delorean was a big-time executive at GM before he left to start Delorean Motor Company. The rest, as you'll find, is all down hill...

I also see tons of 2IS' here in the SGV, but 9 out of the 10 that I see on the road are 250's.

Another reason why emissions are bad for the car:

John De Lorean had originally envisioned that the car would produce somewhere around 200 horsepower, but eventually settled on a 170 horsepower output for the engine. However, stringent US emissions regulations required that parts such as catalytic converters be added to the vehicle before it could be sold in that country. Although the new parts qualified the vehicle for sale in the US, they caused serious reductions to power output, to 130 horsepower. The 40-horsepower loss seriously impeded the DMC-12's performance, and when combined with the forced changes to the vehicle's suspension system, the US versions were regarded as disappointing.

What that said, does this mean that the IS250 is capable of 250+ HP without the smog junk on it?
