HOA is like having a manager in an aparment complex. Rules are created and must be followed. Where my brother lives, he can not park his RV on the side of his house, on his property, even if he has the room; which he does. He can not paint his house, leave the garage open longer than 4hrs, ect... and the list continues. Almost all new communities have HOA's with some very strick rules

HOA has good bad points so yeah, while the city may be easy to deal with, don't get on the nerves of the HOA board.
One acquaintance painted their house a slight variation from normal approved colors. Of course he had to change it but from then on, even down to his landscape plants, they made it a PITA for him. In the end he moved but it was more along the lines of discrimination because he ticked someone off. They used the "rules" to make living there difficult.
Thinking of leaving the garage door open...I recall our city has similar. My thought is that is because most people are pack rats who's garage is a sheep hole of stuff.

HOA is good for somethings, and bad for a lot more
-gets back at them someday....-
If its a daily driver, just not use a car cover or a canopy...like you are going to have to wash it anyways. And your car spends 1/2 the time outside when parked at your work anyways.

I would but the risk of having more swirl marks due to winds on a black car just doesn't justify it. Since this is also my daily car, it's a hassle to take off and put on everyday, especially since it's getting colder here. Removing and putting on the car cover also increases the chances of swirls marks.
