Cypress, Cerritos, Lakewood, Artesia, La Palma are all decent family areas. i'd consider living there. North LB's too expensive unfortunately. Downey is a hidden gem...used to work around there a lot; there are some nice homes, but also some ghetto *** parts.
this area is good because of the military stations (less crime and drama going around)
but there are a lot of old vets and retirees there
cypress is too far in from the freeways unless the 91 freeway is the one of choice.
the overall commute to and from fullerton is smooth. same with to and from long beach
she must be going to southern california school of optometry
i like cerritos because the areas pretty nice and theres not too much crime out there. PLUS the schools there are really good schools.. you know, for when you have kids. hah

Yup she's going to SCCO and Cerritos will have to wait until she graduates so she can help make the mortgage payments
I'm probably going to be living in the house for 8-10 years before moving out and renting it out (which should be pretty easy since so many schools are around there). As it currently stands, homes in Fullerton seem to be more affordable and while I can afford to go up to 750, I'd be more comfortable around the 500-600 range. Plus, in Fullerton I can mess with Henry Thanks for the suggestions, and I'll start looking at the area a little closer.
