a lot of dough. there's a few threads about guys running 80-90+, even excessive of 100+. get ready for more than, at least, $300-400 in fines + increase in insurance...beg the judge/clerk to allow you to go traffic school. if he wrote visual 100+ paced at 95+, his word will override your's any day of the week, including holidays. just be lucky your're safe and your car wasnt impounded.

let's be safe out there guys!

I know all tickets are getting very $$$. Especially at the 100 mph speed range. I just got a ticket (stopped by CHP) for going thru the 74 toll road without a transponder, and the ticket is $395

More than likely, the court will go with the 95 speed as you were paced at it. It is solid ground vs the visual evidence. It's not like your going to call in his eye doctor and subpoena his training records, so the court will go with the sure thing.

Gonna be $$ though..... I'm guessing $500 at least. Ask the court to reduce the speed to 80 and you'll plead guilty and beg for traffic school. If they say no, tell them you want the court date, and then keep pushing it back as many times as you can till they say no more. Then ask for the 80 and school again before the day. Also request in writing all his vehicles data, as well as his training documentation.

Bottom line, be a polite pain in the *** and your odds of a better outcome are enhanced.

Don't tell that to the Judge lol. I can see him telling you "What was so urgent? Was it life threatening? No? Then why did you threaten the life of others with your driving?"

As far as I know, speeding in excess of 100 MPH V.C.22348 carries a maximum sentence of $500 fine, 2 points on record, and 30 day suspension. Thats as bad as it can get. First, ask the judge to be tried under V.C.22350 which is a regular speeding ticket and beg for traffic school. I haven't gone to court yet for mine, but I'll tell you how it goes once I do.

I heard rumors that effective Jan 1 2008, some laws have changed....

One I heard was that traffic school is no longer an option. Is this true?? Sounds bogus to me.

I highly doubt that. Traffic school still means money. If traffic school was no longer an option, people would be getting points all over the place. Everyone's insurance would rise and people wouldn't be able to drive anymore thus resulting in less cars to give tickets to which in turn will create a loss in traffic ticket fines. It's all about the money man! Everyone drive safe. It's ticketing season.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/about/leg/leginfo_dl.htm New laws.

Quick question: If you received a speeding ticket prior to Jan 1, 2008, these laws don't apply to you in court right? Only the tickets received after Jan 1, 2008 do these laws take effect for? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank god its not true... Thanks for the link Downfall75

Correct. If the ticket was issued before Jan 1, 2008, the new laws cannot be used against you.

God, I just gave a big sigh of relief. I thought my 2 pointer violation would be inevitable. Now I have hope for a more lenient sentence.

Under the circumstances, I would strongly recommend you contact an attorney who specializes in traffic tickets. There are a number of them around. I don't have any suggestions off hand, though. You'll pay a little more up front to the attorney, but he should be able to get you a reduced fine and fewer points on your driving record, so you'll come out ahead in the long run.

True, an attorney would maybe reduce your fine and get you fewer points, but its not guaranteed. If you visit all the traffic lawyer sites and look at their 'Win' list, you'd probably be surprised to see a bunch of Dismissed cases. This does not neccessarily mean that they did not get the punishment, they probably just plead guilty to a lesser charge. If you really are considering a traffic attorney, get a quote first and see if, in the long run, it will be worth spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars just for one infraction. My 22348 100mph excess ticket was quoted for $3000! IMO, traffic attorneys are nothing but a scam.
