Default tensioner.

im trying to help my brother change his alternator on his 92 SC400, but im a noob with lexus. im a honda guy. haha

i was searching for a pic of the tensioner , but i didnt find any.


heres a pic. can anyone point out the tensioner so i can remove the belt and change his alternator?

Looks like the pre-tensioner to me. I dont know about those older 1uz-fe, but on my GS400, you can use a socket and just turn that bolt counter-clockwise, and the whole tensioner should move to the point where you can just take out the belt. Worth a try though?

yes that is the tensioner bolt. its a 14mm bolt that you can turn to move the tensioner. no need to remove that bolt.

Yup no need to remove the bolt. Just turn it counter-clockwise for the 1uz. The following links may help you:
