I don't know. My friend said they pretty much flag every modified cars and old car over.

wow, you guys in CA are so not lucky! i guess they just randomly flag cars down and make you smog test right there?! that's insane. we dont' even have smog testing here anymore; we did for a while, and only in the cities, but they did away with it a few years ago. lucky me because most of my cars would never pass.

 

Florida where I am going also did away with it. We are such a flat state that there really wasn't a problem, but pollution that exists and causes issues is from industrial sources.

If you think this smog trap is something, wait until I tell you all later today about what the Mexico City metro area is going to do, as it will probably be the most restrictive emissions program in the world come July. You'll be glad you live in California.

 

California is the most ridiculous state ever. Law enforcement should exist to maintain law and order, not for stupid crap like this. What a gross waste of tax dollars

 

My understanding is those checkpoints are voluntary. It's not like a DUI checkpoint. Just keep driving.

have u guys ever seen white vans on the on ramps of freeways? that check for emission via UV or watever?

what the heck? haha they can do that? If your car is registered, then it means you have already passed smog...never seen this before.

 

I can somewhat agree. However the air quality down there is pretty bad. Your tax dollars are paying for this but it is intended to clean up the air quality for everyones health. Check out how many people have respiratory problems down there. They should check out the factories emissions before cars!!!!!! but that is a different topic.

 

Thanks for the info.... Good to know. However, voluntary or not. Its not good to pop your hood and a CHP officer is looking at it. Scary is all I can say for us.
