Ahhh...a fellow hiker.
Sam Merrill Trail to Echo Mountain.
Take 210 exit Lake and go North. All the way up until you get to a left curve. The trailhead is right at the curve. Park anywhere you can along the street.
Hike is about 6mi round trip. All uphill. The reward is a great view of Arcadia/ Pasadena, and even LA on a clear day.

Probably not in your neck of "So Cal" but I used to hike at Laguna Canyon trails a lot. They have many different paths you can take with one of them ending at Laguna Beach. You can google "Laguna Canyon hike trails" and it'll show you how to get there from where you are. The views up top are really nice and serene (trees, beach, etc.)
