Allow me to expand then 
The school itself is actually pretty good as long as you are a self starter. Many of the professors are very knowledgeable in their field and the sad thing is that most students don't take the opportunity to get to know them. I've had many good professors and relatively few bad ones. Now the town I didn't like. I did not feel safe walking there at night and I did not like staying weekends there because there is literally nothing to do there. UCR paid me very well to go to school there and because of all of the scholarships and grants I've left the school with 0 debt.
Advice: if you end up at Riverside don't mess around too much. Sure you have to have a social life, if you don't you'll hate it even more, but remember that your job as a student is to go to class and get good grades.
