Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy!!

I LOVE archeology stuff like this and I've been keeping track of it since I first found out about it about 5 or 6 years ago. I've just been waiting for it to go on tour and now it's here. Woohoo

Out of the hundreds of places I went to in China, this (Xi An) was by far the most fictitious looking tourist trap, worse than the Forbidden City which was rebuilt in preparation for this year, and the local laborer who discovered the warriors got nothing.

Huh? How can it be a tourist trap if these are over 2,000 years old?

I'm confused....or was the museum display in China a cheesy looking touristy set up?

How do you know the guy who made the discovery got nothing out of the deal? I'm not arguing, I'm curious.

Oh wait...maybe the Chinese government is to blame. I just googled it and added "true story" and found this.

Haha..I hope not.

I like looking at stuff that's been around for thousands of years, it fascinates me. I just want to see it up close.

Haha, not at all, I'm just stating my viewpoint that some tourist sites in China are strictly revenue generators to the degree that the government makes them look modernized. For example the badaling portion of the great wall has handrails and a starbucks. That's clearly for Nixon and ping pong diplomacy. Where as parts of simatai are portions where the wall is crumbling and you really have to hike to travel through it and you can access guard towers and checkpoints

Dont get me wrong, if i had time id spend several months and visit each province, its just some places are (or seem) too fabricated ie: terra cotta warriors are in a huge hanger and ever photo you take in there looks photoshopped. Then you go to the tomb of Emperor Qing (qing shi huang) and they have an article about the local who found the warriors and he gets a little placard, nothing else. poor guy. Sorry for the deterrence, but just this was one of the biggest/strangest disappoints for me in china.

id suggest going to the "other" shanxi (shaanxi) and check out da4tong2, there a temple built on a cliff and it looks absolutely out of this world, then there are these expansive caves nearby that have all these religious carvings and figurines.

Maybe the exhibit here will be incredible?

Aaaahhh..okay. I totally hear ya, I hate touristy places too.

The handrails make sense for the foot traffic which must stampede right through there. The Starbucks I can do without. A lot of places are becoming "cookie cutter" which is a travesty.

So the farmer who made the discovery only got tiny recognition - I hope he got money.

This is quite a find for our day. Archeology finds are becoming fewer as time goes by - especially massive ones.

Actually there is a underwater pyramid off the coast of Japan which they think might be up to 2,000 years old and I wouldn't mind seeing, just gotta learn how to scuba dive first. It's part of my "life to do" list. lol
