LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Police have arrested a 20-year-old Mission Viejo man suspected of killing his girlfriend, authorities said Saturday.
Kate Sue Yi, a 20-year-old Cal State Long Beach student, was found dead in her apartment on the 700 block of Bellflower Boulevard at about 7:20 p.m. Thursday, said Long Beach Police Officer Jackie Bezart.
Bezart said Yi's roommate discovered the body.
Authorities launched an investigation that led them to a business in city of Orange on Friday evening, where they arrested Jonathan Huynh in connection with the murder, Bezart said.
Huynh and Yi allegedly had an altercation on the night of the murder, Bezart said. The couple allegedly had a history of domestic violence, she added.
Authorities have not yet released the cause of death.

Please pray for her family and also the investigation. I was very good friends with both individuals and cannot see how anything like this could have happened. Jon was never the type of person to do this...
RIP Kate, you will be missed...

MISSION VIEJO – The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office is preparing charges against Mission Viejo resident Jonathan Huynh, 20, arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of strangling his girlfriend.
Jane Robison, the news secretary at the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, said that prosecutors were preparing charges against Huynh in connection with his girlfriend's slaying. The body of Cal State Long Beach nursing student Kate Sue Yi, also 20, was found by her roommate Thursday in her Long Beach apartment.
Robison said a copy of the criminal complaint against Huynh, along with an arraignment date, will be available Tuesday.
Police arrested Huynh late Friday at a business in Orange and booked him at 2:15 a.m. Saturday. He's still in custody.
According to police, Yi's roommate came home to their shared apartment, near the campus at Seventh Street and Bellflower Boulevard, and found her unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead by paramedics.
An autopsy showed she died of strangulation, according to news services.
A friend and former roommate Auria Zahed said Kate Yi was a junior and an "amazing student" who had just been admitted this year to the nursing program at California State University, Long Beach.
"She was known for always having a smile on her face and laughing at anything and everything," Zahed said. "She was always such a positive, cheery person. She had many friends and did not mind being goofy. She was very kind, caring and never judged a book by its cover."
