I want to boost my car over the summer, but i have one concern...Living in California
YES... CALIFORNIA=NO FUN...especially with over $200mill in debts! Ya know what that means for us and with tickets ??
If you get pulled over do you just get a fix it ticket if your being pulled over for something besides speeding?
Once they ask you to pop your hood, you're DEAD !! Just don't drive stupid !!
If i were to get a ref ticket i wouldn't care. it'd be a HUGE hassle, but I could return everything to stock depending on the time frame.
Cost you MONEY which way you chose !
How much time do you get for ref tickets?
What are the terms for instantly impounding a car on the spot?
Personally never seen nor heard about getting impounded on the spot.
I had my GTE motor for 5-6 years, never got hassled. I got pulled over for speedin and some dumb tinted and all, yet never got asked to pop the hood or anything. Maybe b/c it's not 240sx and civic... i don't know.

I was looking for a USDM GTE before I even bought a SC and I probably spent almost a year looking without ever finding one. I really only wanted a SC300 if I could source a USDM GTE so I eventually just bought a 98 SC400 instead of waiting to find one. I think I'd still be waiting. Even if you did find one though, the cost would be significantly more than a JDM motor and you might as well get JDM GTE + pay whatever fines you may or may not ever get.

Tom, this is what i would do cuz i assume your going NA-T
- Paint your FMIC black.
- Hide you gauges in the glove or ashtray area (what im doing).
- Make sure your exhaust is quiet (mine is double resonators, 2nd cat + highflow cat downpiped)
- Reroute your BOV ( i only blow off when i step on it hard )
If your going NA-T you cant do much about your motor.. THEY WILL SEE THE TURBO!... 2JZGTE change your value cover to BLANK so it doesnt say TWIN TURBO and your turbos are hidden by stock piping anyways. NO SHINY PIPES AT ALL! like my engine bay here:
and again this is simple precaution.. if you get that one cop that knows about cars ur screwed no matter what. luckly im legal as possible usdm im pretty sure i can pass BAR but wont until i get asked to.
I believe they tow your car if you were caught racing... illegal mods they just send you to BAR. cuz thats just more money in the pocket for the state

on the contrary, i've been popped numerous times for doing nothing. If they pull you over for a modified exhaust, that gives them justification to think something is under the hood. Also a big FMIC is a good sign something is under there

maybe i have the best of luck, though my civic is CARB legal, i don't hide my fmic and my Tial 50mm BOV can be heard from afar, but I have not even been pulled over for blowing off in front of cops. my luck might change after i write this.
my buddy got a ref ticket, took it to court and just payed a fine under 500 bucks, never took the car to the ref.

My friend got a late model in the 90's Mazda RX-7. He got turbo on it and got caught by the CHP. Then he had to go to court to fight for it. But it didn't end up good. So, not recommended, do at your own risk.

Alright guys, im gonna piece together a kit. mark my words on this thread i will somehow turbo my car during the summer.
Also **** THE POLICE, im getting a gold intercooler and gonna ride dirty as hell. We'll see how long it last.
Edit: I do respect the police though, just got caught up in the moment.
