Default tint, keeping car cool, and the police

So I want to get tint to keep my car cooler since its black on black and it gets hot as hell. I dont care about it being dark, im not doing it for looks. What are my options as far as tint goes and not getting ticketed. According the dmv, no tint is allowed at all on the front driver/passenger windows but dont the police use some device to measure the light passage? So there has to be some value that will pass that test right? I want my tint to pass that and cool my vehicle. Will it still work or will it not be dark enough to be worth it?

Any type of tint can only keep your car cool about 15-30 mins depending on the weather. It would even help more, if you crack the windows down a little so you could get some flow going through. If you are around 714 area, look for the shop called HB Tint, his name is Chris. He will educate you about good, bad, fake, color fade, etc tints...

if you want to keep cool, ceramic tint is the one to get. dyed tint is mostly about color. i have ceramic 50% and my car is significantly cooler than others during summer time

Got Huper Optik tinted last week by Perfect Window Tint in Santa Ana. The shop owner Salvador is very nice and very popular on many forums. $450 for all window accept for the windshield. If you decide to go with Huper Optik give him a call and tell him Kevin with the black 3gs send ya.

Damn $450 for tint, that's a lot. Must be some damn good heat reducing tint.

Rain visors to keep your window open (and people from seeing that it's open), and a windshield sun shade, that thing makes a huge difference in my black on tan, it'll make a huge difference in your black on black!

That's an expensive as hell tint job, please post pics. Does it come with a lifetime warranty? And was it regular tint or did you have like a metallic/reflective tint?

In the state of Calif. you can have any color/darkness of tint on the back windows, but no window tint/film is allowed on the front driver and passenger window. People still tint the front windows, but your taking your chance of getting pulled over and receiving a fix it ticket. Most people who do tint the front windows, go with a light tint 50% or 35% to keep the car cool and less chance of getting pulled over. You can also have tint to the upper most part of the windshield, there's a specific way to measure how far down you can tint, but real technical and most police check to see if its around 6 inches down. Calif. police do not use light meter devices to check window tint. Hope this helps you out bro. Good Luck.

No tint in the front windows unless it's factory tint.

You just have to take a chance as Cali has been cracking down on tint ticket lately.
