OBDI do not use scan tools like OBDII. Open up your hood and locate the Diagnostic port. Use the paperclip or a wire and jump the terminal E1 and TE1. Put your key to the ON position (not engine running) and look at the CEL. If you see something like this:
flash.....flash flash......flash....flash flash flash flash
Then the code is 1214 (just making up the number, but you get the idea). Once you've retrieved your code, just look up what it means. The CEL might be on for a few seconds before it starts flashing. It'll keep on repeating itself so don't worry if you missed it the first time around.
