I am about to pick up a couple 55gal drums and I am going to be making a smoker. I was just wondering if anyone around here has completed a project like this or throws down with a grill/smoker once in awhile.

We have a Brinkman smoker and it has worked well for us. I've had 6 racks of baby backs and a handful of chicken thighs at one time. A smoke session usually takes about 7-9 hours and 20-22# of charcoal along with whatever wood I want to throw into the firebox.
If I had the $$ I'd buy a custom one from one of the many welding shops that turn out BBQ type products. If I could weld...it would be a fun project to take on.

Yeah smoking is an all day thing. I don't have a lot of money but I got some if not all the tools to make a custom smoker. I am going to be building something like this:
I got the idea from http://bbq.netrelief.com/pits/metalp..._bbq_pit.shtml
I am not going to do it 100% like the one on there but over all idea is based from that site. It would be nice to have theme to it, I am not sure how to bring it all together. I have extra car exhaust tubing/mufflers at home and some IS300 wheels that would be cool to have a use for but the price of the tires would be more then the grill itself LOL.
