If your a cupcake lover then Dots is the place where you want to go. There is a location in Pasadena.
Other dessert places to check out in LA:
Diddy Reese Cookies - Its right next to UCLA in westwood village. Best known for their ice cream sandwiches. Its two cookies of your choice with dryers ice cream in between. Use to be $1, but i think its now $1.50.
Fosselman's ice cream co - located in Alhambra. just an old fashioned ice cream parlor. Always busy, so you know it has to be good.
Andre's Italian Restaurant - Go there for good italian food at budget friendly prices. This is where I had the best Gelato in my life! Lines can be out the door so go there early.
Syrup - Located in Downtown LA. Serves great waffles and ice cream. Very nice and relaxing place. Just tough to find parking in Downtown.
Mikawaya - If you plan on getting sushi in Little Tokyo (right near downtown LA) go here for mochi ice cream or gelato. They also have other Japanese sweets too. Its in the Japanese village so you can check out other shops too. I like going to the bakery right across from Mikawaya to get green tea mochi cookie. That thing is awesome.

One last sushi suggestion.
Noshi Sushi - My favorite place to go to for japanese food in LA. Small hole in the wall place. Been going there for years now. They close early so make sure you show up at 7-8 PM at the latest. Must try their Albacore salad.
