Sucks if you bought a hybrid years ago with the sticker to use it for carpool.

The articule says a new batch will be in starting 2012, and while it gives a generalization of cars, does anyone know what the list is? I'm honestly a bit tempted for a HOV car since I'm normally driving alone, or only 2 during rush hour (when you need 3).

For those of you with Yellow carpool decals on your eligible cars...they will no longer be valid for the carpool lane after July 1, 2011.

There are NO Lexus vehicles present/future that meet the requirements for this program to date.

The only Toyota (only car for that matter) that will be eligible for the new GREEN sticker will be:

Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Enhanced ATPZEV Plug-in Hybrid 1.8 ATYXV01.8HCU New**

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to your questions regarding eligiblity for single occupancy HOV lane access.

Yellow Clean Air Vehicle Decals: Hybrid Vehicles
Per AB 2628 yellow stickers were issued to qualifying hybrid vehicles and allowed access to HOV/carpool lanes without meeting the minimum passenger requirements. These stickers were limited to the first 85,000 applicants. This limit has been reached and no new stickers are being issued other than as replacements for totaled vehicles.

Are the yellow clean air decals going to expire?
Yes, on July 1, 2011 hybrid vehicles carrying the yellow sticker will no longer be allowed to operate in an HOV/carpool lane unless the minimum passenger requirements are met. This expiration date will not be extended and came from the passage of Senate Bill 535, signed into law on August 10, 2010, and amends California Vehicle Code Sections 5205.5 and 21655.9. After July 1, 2011, use of an HOV/carpool lane without the required number of vehicle occupants may lead to the driver receiving a citation under California Vehicle Code Section 21655.5.

Why are decals for hybrid vehicles expiring?
The California legislature carefully considered the contribution that owners of early hybrids made to the success and widespread acceptance of this new technology. A new Green HOV sticker program will be in effect as of January 1, 2012 to promote the use of the next generation of hybrid and other technologies.

White Clean Air Vehicle Decals: Zero Emission and CNG Vehicles
White Clean Air Vehicle Stickers are available to an unlimited number of qualifying Federal Inherently Low Emission Vehicles (ILEVs). Cars that meet these requirements are typically certified pure zero emission vehicles (100% battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell) and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. The expiration date for the white stickers has been extended to January 1, 2015.

Do neighborhood electric vehicles qualify?
"Neighborhood" electric vehicles such as the GEM EV and the Think! Neighbor are ZEVs certified to the US DOT safety standards that only allow their use on roads with posted speed limits of 35 MPH or less. As such they cannot be issued the California HOV lane access sticker. These vehicles are not permitted to be used on ANY road or freeway with posted speed limits above 35 MPH REGARDLESS of the speed at which traffic may actually be operating.

Green Clean Air Vehicle Decals: Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles
New Stickers pending federal approval will be available as of January 1, 2012 and will be valid through January 1, 2015 to the first 40,000 applicants that purchase or lease cars meeting California's enhanced advanced technology partial zero emission vehicle (AT PZEV) requirements Learn more with the California Clean Vehicle Incentives Fact Sheet. Vehicles qualifying for this new sticker will be added to this website.

Will qualifying vehicles purchased before January 1, 2012 be able to receive a sticker?
Yes. Qualifying vehicles purchased before the program begins are eligible to receive a green sticker.

What models will qualify?
Qualifying vehicles will be posted to this web page. In general, vehicles with the potential of meeting the Enhanced AT PZEV requirement include plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and hydrogen internal combustion engine (hydrogen ICE) vehicles. In order to be certified as an Enhanced AT PZEV, PHEVs and hydrogen ICE vehicles must:

Meet California's most stringent tailpipe emission standard
Have zero evaporative emissions
Have a 15 yr/150K mile warranty on the emissions system and;
Have a 10 yr/150K warranty on the zero emission energy storage system.

Not all PHEV and hydrogen ICE vehicles will meet these requirements.

For additional information please contact the ARB Helpline at (800) 242-4450. To search all local, State and Federal Vehicle incentives, visit the incentives search on DriveClean.ca.gov.
