I desperately need help. (Anyone in Socal ?)
Ok. I have to admit. This is nothing related to the Lexus but I have nowhere to ask for help. Please read my story carefully and give a serious advice.
More than 4 weeks ago, July 31st, 2011. I sold my car to a dude in Pomona, Ca. He paid me $9500 cash and I gave him my car title. As he drove away with his gf. I called him back because we forgot to make a bill of sale. He told me he was half way home and asked me to file the release of liability online to DMV. He then text me his gf info (name, address, driver license #). I did that on the same day I sold it. Recently, I sold my phone to my bro and deleted all the info. Yesterday I got a toll road ticket on the mail for that car. I called/text him back but he always hang up on me and did not pick up the phone. I immediately filed INF 70 form to obtain a copy of the release of liability. It might take up to 6 weeks. In a mean time, I'm just worried that DMV might not have my release of liability on their record and that guy might use that car for the wrong purposes. What should I do next ? all his info is now gone. I only have his number from my phone bill, car license plate and VIN #.
Note: Understand this is my first time selling a car.

I submited the release of liability online right after that guy gave me his gf info (i'm not even sure if this is a true info or not). DMV sent me a confirmation # to my email but it went to a spam folder which was deleted. Hopefully dmv still keep my submitted form. I'll go to dmv tmr and cancel my license plate # and maybe fill out another release of liability in paper. The only record i have so far is that copy of that liability form, insurance cancel date, his contact number on the day he bought it (july 31st)

He supposed to transfer the title to his name long time ago. Instead he did not and he keeps driving that car with my license plates # and my title. If the info he gave was wrong... Can i report to the police as stolen ? I still remember the license # and vin # for that car

If you submitted the release of liability, i'm sure DMV has it. If he gave you false information, i'm not sure how it works out, but i'm pretty sure you still wont be liable and he would be liable for providing false information.

Unfortunately this happens more often than not, at least is just a toll road ticket and not a hit'n'run-multiple tickets in multiple cities and ppi (last vehicle I sold). First call the toll booth management (number is on the ticket) and sometimes the ticket itself would have an area asking you if this vehicle has been sold, usually they'll ask for proof wich you will have to get from the DMV if you walk in they should be able to provide you with a copy of something, plus right now they are Super back-up it takes 4-6 weeks longer than normal to process just about anything.

Ok. I was able to get a copy of the release of liability from dmv. Fax it to the toll road right away along with his gf info. Lesson learned. Hopefully, He will not do anything stupid with my car like hit n run etc......finally i want to say thanks to all of you for your great inputs.
