Default questions regarding shipping a car

i was wondering if anyone has purchased a car in a different state and had it ship here? who did you go through and how much did they charge?

was there anything different about registering it in CA (smog mostly) or was there any problems or was it just like buying a car in CA?

i shipped my old honda civic from texas to california. i shipped through national auto shipping(or something along those lines). they charged around $1100. register it in CA wasn't bad at all. you just have to make an appointment to have your vehicle checked at the dmv. you also have to get it smogged here. other than that, everything is the same

I shipped my sc400 from nc to cali. hope yours runs. DMV wants to verify the vin when you register so youll have to bring it in. also it may not pass smog depending on what it is

Just got to get it shipped here and then the DMV will do some quick checks on the car and you'll have to have it smog tested before registering (unless its less than 6 years old i believe) Make sure you get a reliable transportation company and get the vehicle shipping insurance too if they offer it. Check and see if your insurance company will cover the car too during transportation.

If you have AAA you can have them check it for you and do all the paperwork too. However I recommend getting the smog done first so you can finish with everything on the same day.

(1) I'd call and shop around including online free quotes. I remember I paid bit more b/c I asked to use the enclosed truck.

(2) I took it to AAA and they inspected it like DMV would (checking its VIN #) and mileage. Ofcourse You have to smog the car before head out to DMV or AAA.

I've got hookups with a transport company. jplogistics.net

Also, I suggest keeping the car registered out of state, so much better that way. Another service that can be provided by the shipment company.

Contact me for more details.
You'll be more than safe with these guys.

Default Texas to Cali

I bought my motorcycle back in Texas and had it inspected/registered there. I used http://www.***************.com/info/...n-services.php to ship it out, and it was completely legal for driving when i got it off the truck. As long as you're up-to-date in whatever state you're coming from, you should be good. Either way, you can always find out any registration info at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/home/dmv.htm... Good luck
